The nature of some doubtful open clusters as revealed by Hipparcos

چکیده

We discuss the nature of some galactic open clusters by using proper motions and parallaxes from the Hipparcos and ACT catalogues. We show that the clusters Collinder 399, Upgren 1, NGC 1252 and Melotte 227 do not exist. Collinder 132 is found to be mainly composed out of members of an OB association, but there may be a star cluster present in this area too. Röser & Bastian (1994) proposed that NGC 2451 consists of two star clusters. We show that NGC 2451 A definitively does exist, NGC 2451 B may exist. A star cluster may also be present in the area of Roslund 5. The Hipparcos data finally confirm the reality of Collinder 135.

Absolute Proper Motions of Open Clusters . I . Observational data

Mean proper motions and parallaxes of 205 open clusters were determined from their member stars found in the Hipparcos Catalogue. 360 clusters were searched for possible members, excluding nearby clusters with distances D < 200 pc. Members were selected using ground based information (photometry, radial velocity, proper motion, distance from the cluster centre) and information provided by Hippa...

Main sequences of open clusters with Hipparcos

Hipparcos observations of open clusters provide mean cluster parallax determinations with an unprecedented accuracy. Possible biases in the Hipparcos parallaxes exhibited by other authors has been analysed and proven not to exist. A comparison of observed (V; B ? V) diagrams of the Pleiades and Praesepe with theoretical isochrones has been performed. It does not exhibit disagreement with Hippar...

Correlated Errors in Hipparcos Parallaxes towards the Pleiades and the Hyades

We show that the errors in the Hipparcos parallaxes towards the Pleiades and the Hyades open clusters are spatially correlated over angular scales of 2 to 3 degrees, with an amplitude of up to 2 mas. We suggest that this correlation on small angular scales is a generic feature of the Hipparcos parallaxes all over the sky. We predict the parallaxes of individual cluster members, πpm, from their ...

Revisiting Hipparcos data for pre-main sequence stars

We cross-correlate the Herbig & Bell and Hipparcos Catalogues in order to extract the results for young stellar objects (YSOs). We compare the distances of individual young stars and the distance of their presumably associated molecular clouds, taking into account post-Hipparcos distances to the relevant associations and using Hipparcos intermediate astrometric data to derive new parallaxes of ...

The Problem of Hipparcos Distances to Open Clusters: I. Constraints from Multicolor Main Sequence Fitting

Parallax data from the Hipparcos mission allow the direct distance to open clusters to be compared with the distance inferred from main sequence (MS) fitting. There are surprising differences between the two distance measurements, which indicate either the need for changes in the cluster compositions or reddening, underlying problems with the technique of main sequence fitting, or systematic er...
